In the past few days, we welcomed in nearly 200 new members in to PINKessence. An amount mainly due to a promotion that Dr Kathy Rumer is running to promote her FB and PE Pages by giving away a Free Top Surgery to one lucky winner for simply clicking "LIKE" on her pages. Seems simple enough, right?
Of those people joining PINKessence in the past few days, the majority of them are TransMEN.
There are two things I find very interesting about this... let me explain.
First, I find it very interesting that the guys "get it" and have swarmed in to participate in Dr Rumer's promotion for free top surgery, and that only a [handful?] of TransWomen have even bothered to read the original post for the her Promotion of Free Top Surgery, must less even go over and click "LIKE" to be entered to win it.
Its interesting because I see 100's of TS women daily, talking about how they would love to have their Breast Augmentation done, or other surgery, and yet, many haven't or wouldn't lift a finger except to raise doubt and suspicion over the credibility of the Promotion, myself, Dr Rumer, and this website.
Could this just be the hormones?
The Second interesting part about the influx of TransMen in PINKessence, is the balance it brings to our site. I'm already seeing many people interacting and sharing, and that warms my heart.
I think something has been missing from PINKessence, and IMO, its the guys, and what they bring to the table.
Many of the TS Men have shared their stories over on Dr Kathy's FB Fan Page and her other FB page "Rumer Cosmetic Surgery" some very heart felt and powerful stories. They are also reaching out to me personally, and it has been truly overwhelming!
I want to make sure that all the men are welcome and that PINKessence remains user friendly to TransMEN who serve as our brothers and ally in PINKessence. That we respect and "listen" and allow them to educate us, too.
PINKessence is one of the first places that many gender expressive and trans-identifying individuals come to "open up" or "come out" online, thus we serves as an on-ramp for many into the TG community.
As such, we need to remember that PE members represent THE FULL spectrum of all LGBTQI communities, and when we get into a large concentrated bunch, opinions, idea's and values will vary on many different issues -AND- those idea's don't represent "the whole" of the membership of PINKessence's Social Network. Each user's experience on PE will be as engaging and unique, depending on WHO you interact with, and how much you participate and contribute.
I titled this Blog "What Do TransMen Know, That TS Women Don't", but maybe I should have titled it "What TransMen DON'T know, that TS Women Do?" as a question to myself.. cause that is really what it is.
How can nearly 200 TransMen flood-in response to a promotion for the need of Free Top Surgery, if only a chance at it, yet, with nearly 5000 TG M2F members in PINKessence, and 3000+ friends on my Facebook, only a [handful?] of TransWomen bother to even exert 3 seconds of their life to CLICK on "LIKE" for a chance at winning either a FREE Top surgery, or a CREDIT of $7000 to have ANY other Gender Confirming Procedure done?
This has me asking other questions in my mind.
Some of you have wrote to me personally on the side [All TG Women] questioning the authenticity and creditability of Dr Rumer's promotion for Free Top Surgery, and Dr Rumer's creditability.
Someone actually referred to this promotion as a "Blue Light Special"? Hmm, I don't think anyone that has been unemployed, or struggled through a divorce, or other financial hardships of transition COULD understanding what many TS people have to do to fund their top surgeries, let alone, feed and shelter themselves.
Could it be that for someone that has lived a large majority of their lives as a privileged male, with a job, and savings, etc, a promotion for free surgery is like seeing an ad for Buy-4-tires and get a free rotation...
For the TransMen who have NOT had the advantages of Male privilege and face much higher prices for their transition cost, could it be they see a golden opportunity?
What Do TransMen Know, That TS Women Don't?
It's Fascinating....
Comment by Marsha M. Marsha on December 14, 2011 at 4:30pm Chloe, I also have found interesting, but not surprising, that EVERY transman who signed on with us is fulltime, but none of the recent additions are post-op. I would liken this to what my therapist once told me, "transmen transition well from the waist up, and transwomen transition best from the waist down." It appears transmen have less trouble aesthetically adopting to their gender than transwomen.
Another observation, transmen seem to begin transitioning earlier in life.
Finally, the conditioning and possibly biological factors of our assigned sex come out despite changes to our gender presentation. Examples: transmen usually write more descriptive profiles with colourful adjectives and go into greater personal detail then transwomen who I have seen way too often abbreviate thier profile descriptions, which is very malelike. Also, transmen tend to gravitate toward social/humanity professions wheras, transwomen are heavily into hard science and engineering (hand raised half way) which is also typical of cisgender males.
I concur, Chloe, it is so wonderful to see the different atmosphere transmen bring to the chatroom as they also are not shy to get into the conversations. Overall I am encouraged by this change and hopefully this will bring a solidarity between the men and women at Pink Essence which may resonate into the general population.

Comment by Chloe Prince on December 14, 2011 at 4:48pm Allanna, in case you might be interested, the promotion for the Top surgery is an "either/or" deal. If you WIN it, you can select a top surgery, -OR- use the $7000 credit towards having ANOTHER procedure, such as your bottom surgery you mentioned.
This is what surprises me, that many TS women haven't caught on to.
BTW, you don't have to be TRANS to enter. Its open to cis-gender women and men too.
Comment by Max on December 14, 2011 at 4:56pm That really struck a cord with me. When I was a single mother, I did the occasional lap dance to get my kids what the needed, had relationships that provided food, took jobs I didn't like... I can't do those things just for myself. Now my kids are safely and happily grown and I can actually be myself... I would do a lot for a top surgery. This contest only made me realize how badly I crave this.

Comment by Chloe Prince on December 14, 2011 at 5:04pm Hey Max, thanks for sharing... Your story seems to be a common theme by many I have talked to, both FTM and MTF. I wish you good luck!
Comment by Claire Bargo on December 14, 2011 at 6:40pm I admit that i originally found this site by the application for the free top surgery... (albeit i had no idea it was for top surgery.) But! i joined the site because i found it to be an absolutely perfect resource tool for me to post my transition and life day by day. however im still looking for friends.. so dont be shy!!
Comment by Jillian Munsell on December 14, 2011 at 9:14pm As always, I value what Chloe has to say in her personal blogs, and this was no different. I was a little embarrassed that I hadn't at least 'liked' Dr Rumers information, so I thought - yeah I should do that..
Then it occurred to me. I didn't originally because it's a Facebook " Like" and would be reflected in my FB which all my family, children and co-workers see. Im not that out, and to do so would raise suspicions.
That lead me to the point of this comment. If any "woman" linked to Dr Rumers site, would it raise any real concerns with those who saw that vs a 'guy".
I put myself in place of those who view my FB and asked.. "What does a surgeon such as Dr Rumer offer in her practice that a "guy" like Dave would want?"
My fear and inability to be more open at this time stops me.

Comment by Xander Rice on December 14, 2011 at 11:11pm I don't know if its the hormones or just the fact that I'm older and I'd like to think a bit wiser than I when I was younger, but my skepticism seems to be much less now. Yes, there are things out there that seem to good to be true, but what is the worse thing that can happen by taking a chance and helping someone? We live in a world where everyday each and every one of use has the possibility of coming in contact with someone or a group of someones that won't like us or may try to hurt us just for being who we are. I find it a beautiful and wonderful experience to know that people like Chloe and Dr. Rumer exist. They are trying to help us, educate us, support us and help create a world where we don't feel so alone. I think it is incredibly brave that Chloe is out there sharing her story for the world to see. I figure hey, if Chloe and Lana can put this on PINKessence and say FREE top surgery or $7000 credit for a cosmetic procedure I'm willing to take the chance to press a button, to share my story.

Comment by LAINIE NELSON on December 15, 2011 at 4:06am Chloe I don't have a need or desire for breast surgery. I am quite happy (should I say deliriously happy!) with my breasts which I do believe are still growing past full B.
I could use some age-removing face surgery gladly; but as I am stuck forever in a min wage job I see now way to ever have that or even orchiectomy and especially SRS.
It reflects very badly on this country like many other things do; that once you reach a certain age no corporation will hire you, even small firms.
My company has people working that are 89, the only company I ever found that simply does NOT care how old you are.

Comment by Rachel King on December 15, 2011 at 6:12am Dare I suggest, in my quite shy way, that we have an inundation of supposedly transgender women who are nothing of the not such which but are merely in a darkened room living out their fantasy nightly, and we might leave out the rest of the sordid details of what further activity they get up to.
I have wondered for the last few years of the incredible upsurge in trans women and have to refrain so many times from saying to many blogs, what I actually think.
Lucky I am reticent in my comments, hahaha.
The marvelous response from transmen is in my never humble opinion, because they are genuine in their desire for change in their lives and as has been intimated, they don't have the supposed male priviledge to lose, actually, they will likely gain it.
As a woman, I don't know if thats a bonus or a handicap,hahahaha.
There are so many who wax lyrical about how femme they are but not only do they post false photo's of themselves, either that or they are the spunkiest men alive but they expound on subjects like they are experts and have lived the life for years.
It's a fraud and to those who come on to Pinkessence and are honest from the outset, they will gain my respect, be they male or female, that I promise you.
And therein lies your answer Chloe, we have a majority of night-time people, many genuine in their desire, but oh so many who are getting their nightly thrills at our expense.
I really don't like that, fair dinkum I don't.
In case there is any misunderstanding, which is the favourite trait of trans femmes on Pe, I totally welcome the transmen to this site.
I hope you set up some groups and find Pe the safe haven that the majority of us here have found.
This is a wonderful site.
And don't be fussed with negative comments, they are all part of the learning about self process.
