On Sunday, I traveled to western Mass to visit my high school sweetheart and her lesbian partner. Through high school she knew about me and even give me her cosmo mags. She was my only friend who got irate with me when I tried to quit 12 years ago. I was so happy to celebrate her partner's formal adoption of their child.
Being me, I arrived late. Everyone was out side playing children game. My friend's parents got to meet me for the first time as Amanda. This was a hard milestone for me. I had looked up to her father as the pinnacle of success that my father wasn't and I always wanted to impress him... They were so sweet, although I was over their house daily throughout high school, they didn't recognize me... My height and color were the only things that gave me away... They hugged and loved me. It was an affirming experience.
After the party another lesbian couple and I stayed over. We had a great discussion about being trans. One of the "butch" members of the party was dressed in a nice preppy Izod sweater, and jeans, with a short hair cut, mentioned that she had breast reduction surgery and is now pissed at herself for not going all the way because as painful as it was, she now wants to go back and get them completely removed.
Everything was very cool until my friend said, "Oh, we are so close to the woods here, that we have bears in the the neighborhood..."
I, like an idiot said, "Oh are they cute?", knowing that all of these Lesbians had spent time in New York City and understood the concept of the Gay, hairy, burled men who can also be called "Bears"
And suddenly all the women gagged... Like they were all ready to throw-up.. LOL....
Later that night, they saw my purse.. They all gazed at it like they were seeing something prehistoric... They said what do you carry in it, it is so heavy... I said oh mostly my cosmetics and brushes... I then taught them about purse management... They all looked at me like you've got to be kidding us. I showed them I have a separate bag for my makeup, a different bag for my brushes... It was so funny. It was like they were getting a history lesson...
I had a wonderful time with beautiful people.
I like it, Amanda! *smile*
Sounds like a really terrific time...
