"We are One"

Hello to all my Sister-kin.  I have just received my first set of blood labwork as I prepare to head into my consultation for starting hormones, and the original plan...to start with low dose T-blockers (spiro)...appears to be shot before I even start.   I'm told a 'normal' Testosterone range is 250-300 at the low end with 1000 - 1200 at the high end.  Imagine my surprise (or lack there of...) when my Testosterone number came in at a paltry 159.  really??.  my WTF moment for today.

So, before I prematurely celebrate... the question I pose to those who have gone this way before me...am I looking at good news?  or not?  I looked up why ones T numbers can be so low...and of course it may not always be a good thing, or it may just explain a lifetime of trying unsuccessfully to 'man up!'.  seriously.

Comments?

NOTE: My follow up with the Dr is out a couple weeks (in Nov) so I have some time to ponder all this (and scour the net for more info).  Looking forward to hearing from the more experienced ladies here.

Thanks,

Lyssa

Hello Erin,

It's been a bit over eleven years since I had the base line numbers done but as I remember I was just above 100 concerning testosterone.

My doctor had me on 200 MG Spiro per day anyway in order to allow the estrogen to do what it needed to do without impedance.

I was 33 turning 34 at that time.

Some lab reports show two testosterone numbers, one for Total Testosterone and one for Free Testosterone. The number you listed is potentially normal for Free and low for Total (for a male) so be sure you know for sure which measure you are seeing. Many lab reports show the normal range next to the text result.

Again, lost it on the keyboard.  My beginning T was not known. But after a while on 50mg of Spiro bid it was 410.

I doubled it and got it down to 140.  Last test I had it was back up to 410.  My E with 2mg daily of Estradiol sublingual was in the middle of the female range. 337.

I think it is good news.  It means less need for spiro.
