I was to have my first session with a therapist in Indianapolis.
I mentioned in an email to her that I needed someone to be WPATH certified so I could go through with HRT and SRS. She told me she was not certified but gave me the name of the only one in Indiana who is. Unfortunately I have not heard anything good about this therapist.
I was told, today, that I might have been wrong on the certification being a must. A college student I know said that the WPATH is a set of guidelines, but not something the therapist needs to be certified in. A counsellor can prescribe HRT and a surgeon will go with SRS if the guidelines have been followed and two letters are present.....
Can someone tell me whether this is correct or not?
The only thing keeping me away from living full time right now is my parents not knowing. This will be remedied in September. They are celebrating their 50th anniversary and I do not want to take away from that, so I will tell them after that and before they go to Florida at the end of October...... I am 95% full time now. It's amazingly wonderful.
Comment by Galina Edwards on July 15, 2012 at 9:43pm High Jennifer, gee I hate to be the first to give a my experience. No you do not need therapist the follows the WPATH word for word. It is a guide. I had one therapist that is and lisbian and has a DR. in the front of her name. My second therapist was gay and did not have a Dr. in the front of his name. I saw them for 4 months and got my letters. They were licensed professional therapist. They evaluated me as a person not as a project. My Family Dr. was also prepared to give me a letter after 3 months but it was not necessary. My surgeon accepted the letters with no problem. It is all in the wording of the letters.
Good Luck. BTW, luck has nothing to do with it.
Remember, only God and you control your future.
Comment by HELEN BRADY on July 16, 2012 at 9:56am I know in my own case, Dr. Leis told me he would accept me if an internist Ok'd me for surgery. I have had NO therapy. I got HRT 19 months ago from my GP. Decided the dosage myself. Personally I think the WPATH stuff is BS, but I admit some people are more comfortable following it.
I now know of two other girls who followed my path, just living as the person you really are. Neither surgery nor HRT makes you any more of a woman....you were born female if you are mtf TS. (Just with some mistaken parts)
