Maybe it's silly, but it still hurt

Talking with someone today when he asked how old i am. Turned out I'm seven years older. He says "You're quite older than I am," and "I'm picky about age...I prefer someone in my own age group." I'm not gonna lie, it hurt my feelings really bad. Why would seven years matter at all? It's not like we're from different eras, I'm not going to reference vodville routines out of nowhere. The whole age difference argument never made sense to me. My parents were eighteen years apart, married just as long before my dad died. I've been with someone twelve years older than me, and I was very happy with them. Seven years seems not only trivial in number, but the notion that's a whole other 'age group' is ludicrous! *sigh* Now I wish I had someone to go out with so I don't spend the whole night moping over something I know doesn't warrant it...
