Good morning ladies,
I plan to start HRT this summer and need to remove my facial hair. I have dark facial hair, brown almost black and not terribly thick. This should make me an ideal canidate for Laser but would it be a waste of time and money? I would love to try laser however some say it doesn't work. Others say it is fabulous, I'd love to hear what your experiences have been. Is it worth trying in your experience? I know there is no right answer as we all get different results.
I will be looking in the Chesapeake Va. area can anyone recommend a bussiness in the area?
Has anyone tried http://www.americanlaser.com/?
Take the survey. (hope this works)
Thanks for your insight ladies.
Lisa
Comment by Mia Macy on May 29, 2012 at 1:01pm both if you can (dark hair light to olive skin) - laser is cheaper but took me 18 months, electro. is expensive and painful but over faster
Comment by Sabrina Massiel on May 29, 2012 at 1:43pm I spent $4500 on a package of laser treatments; it worked really well but left I would say about 20-30% of the hair behind (all blonde) which I will now need to go back and have removed through traditional electrolysis.
If I had it to do all over again I would still do the laser but I found I most likely will never need all the sessions I had bought.

Comment by Galina Edwards on May 30, 2012 at 1:58pm When you are shopping around a elctrolysis tech ask what kind of machine they have. The best machine I have found is the Apilus using the insulated probe. Good luck.
Comment by Brenda English on May 30, 2012 at 11:37pm I did laser first to remove the majority of hairs and am finishing with electro. The cheapest route for me so I have found. No idea why but after stated hrt, no more chest hairs, only done face and hands with laser. dont go for the cheatest thought go for the best service and newest machine
Comment by Lisa Lesher on May 31, 2012 at 11:10am Thanks for all the input ladies, I do plan to start laser in the next couple weeks. Even if it doesn't get it all it should greatly reduce the amount that I need to use electrolysis on. I hope all that I will need is my facial hair removed, no hair on my hands or back and very little on my chest.

Comment by BJY on May 31, 2012 at 11:07pm Hi Lisa,
I work part-time in a laser clinic. The advise here is pretty much spot-on. Laser will be effective as long as there is the contrast between pale complexion and dark hair. It is not effective on gray or blond hair. It is nowhere near as expensive as electrolysis, nor does it take the time. Many people have had upwards of 200 hours of electro, at $75.00 per hour!
We charge $150.00 for a session including face and upper neck, and usually six sessions does the trick, with the 6th session at no charge. We do not require the purchase of a contract or package, although discounts for packages are available.
The point? Shop around, get to know the laser tech's in your area, get references from existing clients, and if you have gray or blond hair, expect to undergo electro. That way, you'll get your money's worth, and still not have unrealistic expectations.
BTW, another feature of most modern lasers is collagen stimulation --"skin tightening"-- which, personally speaking, works really well! Check it out for facial lines and wrinkles, or for the back of hands! Also varicose veins and a multitude of skin issues. Lasers are really miracle machines...

Comment by Erin Detty on June 3, 2012 at 12:31pm Laser dose work and you will be surprised how much white hair you have too. Electrolysis is the only way I know that will get rid of the white hair. It takes many treatments with the laser because from what I'm told your hair grows in something like seven stages and there are thousands of hair folicals in your face. It's been worth every penny.
Comment by Galina Edwards on June 3, 2012 at 7:30pm Yea I know I commented once.
A social living deal came up for four laser treatments for $99. I bought it for my under arms. During the initial counsult she asked if I had had laser before. I said yes and I was also a license electrolysis tech. I had the treatment and it was not as bad as I remembered. After the session she asked me If electrolysis removed white hairs because laser does not. I proudly told here electrolysis is so far the only proven method to kill the white hairs. She then asked for my buisness card.
No matter which treatment you use, hair does grow in cycles about every 4-6 weeks. So be patient.
