"We are One"

On my loooong list of concerns related to transitioning, is hair.
I have none, well, actually...,I have lots.
Lots of wigs, all somewhat useable, some long, most short.
Some cheap, some expensive.
None I would care to wear 24x7
When I'm out and about, they ride up, are hot, and scratchy,,
I can't see myself wearing a wig all day, every day, and also, I can't see where traditional hair techniques, such as scalp reduction is really going to give a result that is satisfactory.. I just don't have enough to work with.

I can tolerate them for a day, or two, but not forever...
What has been your best solutions?

Thanks
Follically yours
Jillian

Jillian......follically yours......that's hilarious!!!  Jeeez, good to know I'm not the only one with a Loooong list of concerns, or as I like to put it my "Transition Laundry List." LoL

On to your concern about having enough to work with for transplants or scalp reduction.  Have you had a consult about this?  If not, why not see what they say?   I had my first round of transplants in November, and it has grown in quite well.  I do think I need one more round to completly eliminate that "pattern of baldness whose name shall NOT be mentioned."  Spent a considerable amount of money, and still looks a little thin under a direct light :(

I hate wearing wigs too, and because I'm tall, I need all the help I can get, and would love to be able to just wear my natural hair.  We'll have to see how that works out.  Anyway, thanks for your post!

Hugs, Erica

I'm in the same boat. I do have enough for transplant and scalp reduction, I just don' have the funds. I would love to get rid of the wigs for good. If you find an alternative let me know.

Jillian,

A woman’s hair is her crown.  It should frame her face.  In framing her face it should also be arranged to minimize the facial flaws of the testosterone poisoning we bring with us.

You don’t want it to be obvious that you’re wearing a wig.  The first clue is a hard forehead hairline.  Lace front wigs are designed to soften the hairline and give a very natural look.  They are available in both synthetic and human hair versions.  Synthetic wigs are now available with heat tolerant hair that can be styled with a curling iron.  Wigs are now made stretchable and quite open improving cooling.

With age the face sags.  You can use medical tape to stretch your face to achieve a more youthful look.  The use of a wig is an easy way to hide the tape.   I use an application of liquid bandage and 3M Blenderm which is available from medical supply houses.  (Drugstore tape turns to a messy goo on my skin.)

A wig cap, perimeter taping and bobby pins will anchor the wig so it doesn’t move.

Wigs.com has periodic 25-30% off sales.

There are high end hair stores that can make you a customized cap for a bald spot.  Some natal women go bald too.  Hair extensions are the way Hollywood stars create a beautiful crown.  At the Keystone TG conference there was a presentation from a local Harrisburg hair store that covered these custom aspects.  The beautiful young woman who made the presentation wore a cap to cover a bald area.  I don't remember the name of the store but I can find it out if you're interested.

I hope this is helpful.

Hugs, Jennifer

I feel for you, the first thing I did was go to Bosley, 20,000 dollars latter and damn I'm happy but damn, you get what I'm saying. I am lucky that I have enough hair to work with, there is other hair systems that from what I hear is very natural looking I don't know how comfortable but I do understand how wearing a wig is just not the same. I tried it for about 30 seconds and had the hair crafts done 4,500 of them I hope you can find something your happy with, I know how important it is to me:)

Thanks all for your thoughts
Why is it that hair is always in the wrong places!
I have looked at a service which bonds a hair piece to your scalp and you wear it for 30 days or so, ten get it serviced, cleaned and reattached....er....glued back on.
In all honestly, it looks and wears terrifically, but cost about 3 Thousand a year.
I never wanted to get myhair back, only to loose it again, if I didnt have the money.
It is indeed my crown, and I get emotional about it.

Jillian, I am not being whimsical, or maybe I am.

I have a full head of hair and before hair grafts( see my profile pics) only a bit of receding.

I had 2031 hair grafts to fix this and I was thinking, why can't hair grafts come from another part of the body?

Do they have to come from your head in order to take?

I never had body hair but wouldn't it be great if chest or elsewhere hair be taken and used for transplants.

Oh jeez, I just had the thought, what if they used pubic hair, hahahaha.

It would give a new meaning for someone who we might consider to be dickheads.

Sorrry, can't help myself sometimes, hahahaha.

Then again, why can we not have hair grafts from other sources?

Imagine a poodle as your donor hair.

Now there is a scary thought.........

So, has anyone had the wherewithall to ask such a question?

Oh, and poodles don't get fleas!!!!! hahahaha.

Oh dear, I better stop about now.........

Poodles...I always am reminded of a movie Vincent Price starred in where he made a poodle owner...nevermind, someone may be eating breakfast.

Jillian, I live with someone who has suffered with hair loss but has maintained regimens of various concoctions the result of which is her hair is filling in gradually. Hairon the head to me, along with voice and facial remval are the keys to what I call initial passing. Voice and facial hair are obvious, but in our western culture unless one is African-American or a recovering cancer patient, white women are scrutinized who wear wigs.

Anyway, I hope Andrea will repeat ( she went through her regimine commenting in another blog) her advice her with a comment because it is working.

Two thoughts: One I have a friend that has to wear wigs, her's look so good I never knew until she told me. They were human hair. Second you can try Rogine (generic at Target/WalMart $20 for 3 month) and Finesteride (6 months for $25 from In-House). Say $65 for a good experiment. Takes abou t4-6 months. Also use Nioxin Shampoo, get the Stage you need at Ulta or other finer beauty supply places. Okay three....
