"We are One"

Wednesday July 28 2010 marks the occasion I officially went out into heavy populated areas as Lindsay. My fiancée Kim and I left Mick behind in Bendigo for the day while we shopped in Melbourne and saw the Tim Burton exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). I was even nervous. I never felt my heart rushing or a cold sweat forming. I just went about my business like it was natural for me. Well I tried anyway. While I wasn't nervous, I was cautious. I kept my voice down most of the time. Although there were times I had to talk to shop keepers. They were all polite to me. occasionally I'd notice people having a look. They were trying to be discreet. But with my glasses on I could study there faces as they walked by. I noticed it was mainly girls who'd look at me. On a tram there was one girl who kept looking at my clothes. She probably knew I wasn't the real thing but I think it was mostly the clothes she was checking out. I did have a pretty cool outfit on.

It wasn't until we were nearing Bendigo on the way home. The train was slowing down so we got our bags and coats ready then stood up behind the line materialising at the door. Kim saw a woman still in her seat next to us. She was staring at me and muttering something under her breadth with a scoff look on her face. Kim pointed her out to me but when Iooked the woman kept her head down. Kim was worried I was going to say something to her. I didn't though. That would have made everyone look. But that's typical of Bendigo.

Apart from that one woman and my aching feet the whole day turned out pretty good. I bought a heap of cool things to take home with me. I love shopping in Melbourne.

Congradulations. You are taking the first step of your journey out in the public eye. The more you go out the more confidence you will gain and the less you will be preoccupied with worrying about what others may think. Just be you. BTW we all are first timers once.

It's been a long time between blogs Lindsay. I'm pleased to hear from you again and absolutely stoked that you and Kim are not only together still but have grown in your love for each other. She is a wonderful woman.
Speaking of wonderful women, I hope you gave the old biddy on the train your best look, sour old bag, she must have a miserable life as the " little woman" at home, hahaha.
I wish you well in your "presenting as you" time. It gets easier and easier as you gain more confidence that you are not at all odd, merely another Aussie being what Aussie's are best at, thumbing our noses at convention.
" Small steps" an oft used phrase that needs a reappearance.
Babies don't start walking at birth and nor do we.
Allow yourself to grow, it might seem frustratingly slow, but you WILL look back and laugh at these times.
They are precious to us.
You and Kim go well,
Rachel.

And what do you do when you see a girl in a great outfit? First thing I think is she looks good in that outfit. I wonder how it would look on me? Does it fit my style? Does it come in my size? Where did she get it?

It is an emotional journey to venture out. Fear is always our companion. You'll see over time that becomes less and less. You'll not give people like that old lady any second thought. Anyone who can't understand the reality of the world around, like this woman, isn't worth giving any lengthy consideration to.
