Well it's that time again for my monthly update and this past month has been crazy as hell. I finally got my name change approved which was an insane experience to go thru that process.
After I got that completed and went to the Social Security office to get my name changed there. I then went a few days later to get my drivers licence updated. A word of warning don't do like I did and go to the must conservative DMV office in the area just because the other offices are super busy. I decided since I got turned away from 3 DMV's in Charlotte because they were to busy that since I had to go to my mom's up in Salisbury which is 35 miles north of Charlotte to go to the DMV near her house. So I drive to that office and it was almost empty minus a few mom's there with their kids trying to get permits. Oh on a side note I use to go to the high school that was only 4 miles away from that DMV office. Anywho I go in and saw a few people that knew me but didn't recognize me and I wasn't going to anything. So I check in and was called to see an officer. The officer ask's what i'm there for and I tell her name change and she reply's "Oh I guess you got married and need your last name changed." . At that point I tried to keep a straight face while handing her my old licence and court documents. Once she looked at everything the look on her face was total shock. She was really cool and nice thou. Then I thru her a curve ball by telling her that I had my paperwork to get my gender marker changed. At that point she was really confused and had to call a mgr over. The mgr that came over was in her 60's and when she found out what was going on she flipped out. At that point she was announcing my business to everyone in the DMV including my old male name and new female name. Then she told me that I couldn't have my gender marker changed and when I requested that she call the DMV help desk to be told the new laws and rules she flat out refused.
At this point she finally walked away and it was just myself and the officer I was dealing with. She was very nice and called the help line and verified the new laws and got someone at the help line to give her an override to change my gender marker. After that was done I guess the mgr got a call from the help line and she came out screaming at myself and the officer for going over her head and was trying to cause a larger scene which moments later back fired when the mom's that were there started yelling at the mgr for her actions. Well after I got my temp licence and since it was closing we were all let out at the same time I stopped to thank the parents who stood up for me. I am amazed at how I was able to keep so calm the entire time.
Well that was my DMV experience. As far as changing everything else well that was cake compared to that. I will say that experience also made me a lot stronger and also realize that there are a lot of really wonderful people who will stick up for you and you don't even know them.
The rest of this month was very calm in comparison. I also went to my first Pride Charlotte Festival which was a fun experience and saw a lot of people I didn't expect to see at all there. I even ran into a few friends who haven't seen me since before I started transitioning so it was a bit of a shock for them to see me now but it was great to spend time catching up on things with them.
I'm still trying to find a job and have decided that after getting my records updated at 2 of my previous employers that I would stay in the IT field. Hopefully i'll find something soon.
Well that's all till next month. :-)
