Wow I can't believe I did it again and went so long without updating on here. Well a lot has been going on since I last updated. To start it off I got laid off from my job the middle of June but on the plus side I decided since I had nothing holding me back I started living as myself full time. I also applied to get my name legally changed which is still in process due to my background check getting delayed by what I was told was a technical problem. I also got letters from my therapist and physician so I can get my gender marker changed on all my ID's which I plan to get done as soon as my name change goes thru. In the meantime I feel like a kid who's counting down the day's till Christmas.
There has been some down parts to my transition which is my wife and I have decided to separate but we are still living together so we can be with our kids and also we just can't afford to live apart. She is still very supportive and has been helping me as much as she can with things. My two 5yr old son's have been awesome about it and have even told me that they like me better as Katie.
Right now the only thing in my future that i'm worried about is trying to find another job. I have been in I.T. for 16yrs and I am worried that since I have gone full time how it will affect my job prospects and also how it affect my previous job experience. All the people i've talked to have no clue since they transitioned while still working and stayed with their company after they went full time. Has anyone else been thru that experience? I am all open to any advice that anyone has.
Katie - As many have transitioned off the job as on; it is just a matter of timing and circumstances. It sounds like you have support from (at least your) immediate family. Often that is the best launching platform you could ask for.
One thing you might want to consider, with your IT background, is places like telemarketing or call centers. I also know that some companies look for 'contract employees' who will/can work from home. I have no idea how you find this out; YOU are the one from IT. *smile*
Don't get discouraged; it's a long road ahead and many potholes to circumnavigate. Be yourself, don't rush and above all, don't push. You'll get there when you get there. Don't look at it as an ordeal; call it your brand new huge adventure.
Good luck!

Hi Katie,
first of all congrats that you've done another step and my best wishes for you for your new full-time-life as yourself. I wished I was so far yet to start my life as Julia full-time ... Its also wonderful to read that you get support from your partner and your children, i think for anyone in our group, who starts transition with a family in her background its the best thing when the family stands behind her and supports her ...
Otherwise ist sad to hear about your job, but I wish you the best that you'll very soon find a new job you can even start yet as yourself working again!
Love & hugs! Julia
