Sex Change Medicare Insurance Coverage Appeal "Kicked Upstairs".

An unexpected twist in the Journey to overturn Medicare NCD 140.3 not allowing Insurance Coverage of Sex Change Surgery.  The appeal will take place in front of an Appeals Board in the Department of Health and Human Services.  According to their rules an Administrative Law Judge cannot make a Determination on a National Coverage Decision. We may still have to do the Administrative Law Judge hearing on March 7th unless we can get a waiver.

a message still true . . . Pink ft. Indigo Girls: "Dear Mr. President"

hello, again

yes, i'm into old school, zzzzzzzzzz

i know this song is (semi-sorta-) old, but the message is still true: it is about the mandate of leadership, about what a person is accountable for. on the surface it was about one particular man, and his responsibility. but it goes a little deeper: all our leaders are responsible for making decisions that…

I'm NOT a Crossdresser!

You probably aren't either!

I'm sharing a post I wrote for another site.

Please read it carefully because I'm NOT really saying anything

derogatory about crossdressing. Enough of that already exists.

I don't spend 100% of my life yet as a female, but when I do does that qualify me as a crosdresser? When I'm working as a guy...maybe that's when I'm really the crossdresser?

Where is the mystical line? If you take the word in it's most basic

form I am a… Read More

Name change

In an effort to be more of myself, I'm choosing to leave behind the name Stacey in favor of something that suits me better. I'm fortunate enough to have been given a name that can be either gender by my parents (if only they knew at the time) and so I thought it would be nice to actually use it. I picked Stacey originally because it had a similar sound but would still help protect anonymity. I'm become more comfortable in being "known" by people and I feel that using my real name simply feels… Read More

Mirror Mirror on the Wall...

Please tell me I'm the fairest of them all!

On occasion, the mirror does tell me that. Then again, the mirror has

been known to fib!

I have always had a struggle with that mean old mirror.

It told more than a thousand times I was beautiful - only to be stared and

laughed at in the first public venue I visited.

More than once the mirror said "you are plain and unattractive" and I

never had a problem.

Before you want to jump to conclusions concerning… Read More

I was born a poor little....

Following being called a "hater" and being "sent to hell" around here for my religious beliefs. I thought I would add a post I put on my other blog. No i"m not not the finished transitioner that many of you are, but I've been able to eke out a meager existence in both genders. Every once in a while I get asked questions. One was today when I finished a grad student's hour long question and answer session on a transgendered thesis.

As we sorted through the usual questions of when did you… Read More

The Census - Parallels Between Race and Gender?

Yesterday I read an interesting article, by Jesse Washington of AP. I describes how people are answering the question about race on the census forms. This is the first time that each person could select more than one race, if appropriate. With any luck this URL will let you read the article:…

We Are Changing the World #7

My good friend and stellar trans ally, Michelle Alexander, talks about her life-changing experience caring for a blind transsexual woman. Allies are so important to helping change hearts and minds in the population at large. We certainly cannot do this alone and I am SO grateful for Michelle and those like her who give their time, energy and support to our community. Michelle is a member here at Pink Essence, please let her know how you feel. Here is her inspirational…

Driver's License

Well I finally did it. I got my new Driver's License today. And guess what? The picture on it....was horrible! I don't know if it's because my smile is only halfway or because the wig looks like.....a wig! Ah well. Apparently October of 2011, I need to get it renewed so hopefully I'll look better by then =) Then again, it is a driver's license picture so it probably won't anyway haha. Of course, the coolest part is that the F is there under Sex. What more could I ask for?… Read More
