Hi I am looking for some support and direction I just received this from headquarters Marine Corps and change of records and I don't know what my next steps are. Any support and direction would be greatly appreciated as well as I'm looking for information on how to file disability for my Crohn's disease.

Good Morning Ms Laisch,

To request a change to your DD Form 214, you must do so in writing and submit your request to this Headquarters. You may use the Standard Form 180. Please note, we do not make changes to your DD Form 214 or military records for events that occur after the effective date of separation.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Nicole A. Greene

I know we Veterans know the amount of paperwork and time it takes to get something done in government. I have accomplished the changing of my original military records.  I was only trying to get my retirement check to reflect my new name.  DFAS said they could not do it (change my name on my check) even though I corrected DEERS, AKO, mailing, TRI Care with my court name change.

On about the 3rd try I got my records corrected but the surprise was how far they went back.  I was sent a DD Form 1343, Notification of Change in Service Member's Official Records.  It went all the way back to when I was inducted at Jackson, MS and my original HOR.

I am not going to complain, BUT - LOL they used my married name in AKO, not my maiden name.

It will be about a month before it is reflected on my retirement check.

On care from the VA, you will not find a bigger advocate. There has been some confusion and need for training on how to address transgendered patients. It varies from clinic and office a great deal. Most of the time, a simple word will correct the issue. Gainesville Malcolm Randall Hospital is great. They have a compressive HRO in Gainesville and people are very much aware. The Lake City hospital, has not had sensitivity training. Some staff is very courteous and others do not have a clue or don't care. Jacksonville VA Clinic is mostly a hit. But there are a couple of misses. I will not let those misses upset me.
I do know that without the VA, I would be dead or in much worse shape than I am in now. I am in review for a possible lung reduction or transplant. We will see what happens.
