Washington and the Fight for Gay Rights

According to the news, I just found out that the Referendum extending all the same rights enjoyed my married heterosexual couples to gays and lesbians will be put to the vote of the people. Now, I'll admit, I am a heterosexual crossdresser, meaning I can hide who I am (not necessarily a good thing) and a religous person, this should have little bearing on me or my rights. So also said the citizens of Nazi Germany.
Still, I feel as a CD whether I come out or not, my cause lies with my more visible brothers and sisters in the LBGTG community. And I also want to make a stand for the more silent among us in the Christian community. I'll say to begin that I am pround that my own church, the ELCA has decided to move forward and allow openly same sex clergy to hold rostered positions within the church. We've gone from it's ok to tell, just don't give us a reason to ask, to we're going to allow you to model relationship for us. The fight isn't over and we are a long way from full acceptance but we're getting there. And that is the crux of my message here. Don't lump all Christians in with the backwards looking members of the Religous Right. Many of us happen to believe that God's Word as lived in Christ is in our corner not theirs.
So the fight is coming, look for this to be the rallying point as we turn the tide of the Prop 8 reversal in California. Send your support in words, dollars, presence as we fight to insure that we hold to not only our Constitutional Rights, but to the Promise made to all humanity in Christ Jesus.
And Washingtonians, remember we are voting to APPROVE Referendum 71, to endorse what our legislators have already enacted into law. This is one of those crazy times where the words and the ads can confuse. IT IS YES ON 71.
