What is the best way to deal with midlife belly fat ? I tried a gerdle but I didn't like the way it shifted the fat around. What other options are there?

i am following a very strict no carb diet and pilates and yoga

Everything I have read (and my doctors have told me) says aerobic style exercises will help remove the belly fat. In addition, I've been doing those dreaded sit-ups and crunches. Although that doesn't remove the fat, it does tighten up the belly so fat doesn't sit out as far, plus it helps with my posture.

Reduce your abdominal fat (and all other fat) with low calorie menus that would provide at least 70-100 gms protein. White bird and cold water fish. Vegetables must be low glycemic as well as any fruits. (beware of juices) Water, water, and more water. Stop sit-ups, crunches or any of that nonsense or you'll risk a lumbar injury. Reduce calories by as much as 15% of your daily requirements. Discipline yourself to achieve your goal because 3500 calories is equal to 1 lb. of adipose(fat). This is the science of weight loss. Good luck & and hugs
Well the first thing that comes to mind is portion size. Then it is quality not quantity. Though yet crunches may help but they also help pooch out your belly.  Try the plank then there is cheek to cheek. While in a plank position touch your right side then your left side to the floor meanwhile holding the plank. That will help build your muscles and your transverse obdominus and for fat burn nothing is better than cardio. You have to get your body into your fat stores. Also another good way to work on your transverse obdominus is the vaccum. Arnold was a big fan of this early in his bodybuilding carreer and it helps reduce your stomach instead of he pooch a lot of weight lifters get from crunches and weighted situps. Please do not forget the most important thing stretch, stretch, stretch and plenty of water.

I have had weight issues for years and recently found that my Thyroid was "slow" so my Dr. put me on Synthroid. I decided to change everything about my eating habits so I gave up Beer, Bread, Potatoes, Cheese and all red meat. I eat lots of fruits and veggies now far more than I ever ate before. I'm always full no starving at all and I have lost over eighty pounds in less than a year. By the time I'm done I plan to be down even more. I weigh every day and keep an excel chart of my weight loss. Doing this I have learned that Potatoes are extremely fattening for me. God I love them though. lol

Kathy is right, a good cleansing once or twice a year does wonders for body, not just the tummy, but one feels much better.

I guess again Ellen I am in a minority.

All these suggestion on eating and exercise are good but I am lazy.  I did mine the old fashion way, lipo, lipo, LIPO.  I lipo suctioned everything at least once, legs, arms, bra fat (twice), waist (three times), and flanks (twice).

And the gall of the doctor, he said I should cut back on my eating.

Which reminds me, I need to call for another lipo appointment tomorrow.

I have had great results on a Ketogenic diet (low carb less than 20g/day).
